Questions, answered
Can I split audio every 10 minutes instead of into a set number of parts?
Yes. Choose "one every N minutes" and set the length; the last part is whatever is left over. Or choose a number of parts and the recording is divided evenly. The parts are named Part 01, Part 02 and so on, and you can rename them before splitting.
Will a cut land in the middle of a word?
It can, which is why there is an option to move each cut to the nearest silence within 2 seconds. With it on, cuts land in pauses wherever there is one nearby, so the parts are nearly but not exactly equal.
How do I make chunks small enough for a transcription service?
Some transcription services cap the size of each upload. Choose MP3 at 128 kbps as the output, which is about 1 MB per minute, then pick a part length that keeps each file under the cap; for a 25 MB cap, 20-minute parts leave room to spare. Turning on "nearest silence" keeps words from being cut in half.
Can I check the parts before splitting?
Yes. The parts appear as tracks on the waveform as you change the settings, and in the track list you can edit, add or delete any of them before you split. Cancel restores the track list you had before.
Is it free? What is the file limit?
It is free, with no account and no limit on the number of parts. One upload can be up to 450 MB. The file is uploaded over HTTPS, cut on our server, and deleted once your downloads are ready.
